4 resources for finding home locations for photo shoots in 2023

One of my most frequently asked questions when planning a photo or video shoot: where do we shoot!? For lifestyle photos for product brands or personal branding for entrepreneurs, often we rent beautiful homes by the hour on platforms specific to creative productions.

As you’re on the platforms looking for the right spot, in addition to style be sure to take into consideration the lighting, space for setup, surfaces and how different rooms or areas could support variety across content. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, or for more photos to reference as needed. (If you’d like help curating locations, shoot me a note!)

While the industry is always evolving, I’m excited to fill you in on my favorite photo shoot location resources for 2023.

1. peerspace

Peerspace is like an Airbnb for photo and video productions and events, with spaces available to rent by the hour, which you book directly with the home owner.

I find Peerspace the best for quantity of options and variety of styles, plus it’s in many US cities and six other countries. You can find anything from tiny urban apartments to restaurants, commercial event spaces to luxury homes at a wide range of rates, too.

It’s the platform I’ve used to date to rent my own photo studio, and thus far I’ve had a great experience on the host side of things as a host.

Use this link for your first booking to get $50 off.

2. home Studio list

I’ve also used Home Studio List for lifestyle shoots, and I love how niche and curated the discovery experience is with homes only– no studios or other commercial spaces.

The options are all beautifully styled homes, at a range of prices. Rather than booking directly with a host or home owner, the Home Studio team handles the process for you. I love following along on their Instagram for interior inspiration, too!

For $10 off your first booking, use code TORYP1155.

3. giggster

Giggster is another service in the US, plus a few locations in UK and Canada. It offers a nice mix of locations at a wide range of prices.

Much like Peerspace, Giggster is peer-to-peer, so you coordinate and communicate directly with the host. While there can be some overlap with the same locations across different platforms, Giggster has been a great resource to find a few gems I haven’t seen elsewhere.

4. mint Locations

For California, Mint Locations is an incredible resource to find luxury houses and distinct design styles around the state. Plus, they have roughly 20 more beautiful properties around the country, from New York to Sun Valley.

I love how you can search by design style (beach, farmhouse, bohemian, contemporary, etc) or region (Palm Springs, Marin, Calistoga, etc.)

If the interior style is a key element of your creative goals for a commercial or lifestyle shoot, start with Mint, and their team will guide you through the process.
